Virginia “Jini” Mary Patturelli and her two sisters, Nina and Genevieve, spent years dedicating themselves to the work of the Jordan Hospital Club (JHC), an independent non-profit organization that raises funds to benefit Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth (BID Plymouth). Genevieve served as Treasurer for the JHC, and Jini and Nina spent countless hours volunteering for Club events and managing the gift shop at the hospital. When her sisters passed and Jini was unable to volunteer, she still managed to remain a committed member of the JHC, and participated in its fundraising events. The Patturelli sisters, who were long-time Plymouth residents, deeply loved their community, the hospital and the JHC.
This February, the hospital was honored to receive a $175,000 donation from the JHC, the result of a bequest from Jini’s estate. This generous gift will be used for the current expansion of the Emergency Department, specifically funding a Vertical Treatment Room and two Acute Care Treatment Rooms in her memory.
The BID Plymouth Emergency Department (ED), which was originally constructed to serve less than half the patients that are currently seen there annually, is slated to expand over the next few years in two phases. First, an expansion is planned to open in April 2021, which would add twelve private rooms to the existing ED. Next, a larger expansion of the ED is queued up over the next few years, which would approximately double the size of the entire Emergency Department.
“We as a Board put great thought into how best to support the hospital while honoring Jini’s memory. The Emergency Department Expansion is not only an immediate need for our community but a beautiful way to remember her selfless donation. She gave so much of herself to the hospital we know she would be truly touched,” said Kristen Hall, President of the Jordan Hospital Club.
